Carol Vargas has been a raft guide since 1991, during that time she has seen few women work in the whitewater industry in Costa Rica.

When she first started raft racing, it opened her eyes to women on river everywhere! She named her team “Machacas” after the native fish from her home river, the Pacuare, that always hunt at a team, as a symbol of women working together.

Carol has a vision of expanding opportunities for women to work on rivers in Costa Rica, WWoW is proud to partner with her on her journey and help her build her vision.
